I guess because the volume is louder with more powerful headphones? At least with AudioStrobe the lights are stronger when the music is very loud.

Certainly that is all true, but changing headphones will not make the lights brighter.

Greetings... turning up external audio with AudioStrobe encoding will make the lights brighter, as the AS signal would be stronger, but probably better to adjust the AS sensitivity when you're in AS mode. Try both analog and digital AS modes as well, and you can adjust how much of the external sound enters the headphones (see p. 13-14 of the Rev. 2 Procyon manual for details).
