Audiostrobe format conversion

I was wondering: will the audiostrobe still work if I convert it from .wav format (cd) to .mp3, or would it need to be purchased directly in mp3?

You can convert the files, but they need to have their high-frequencies intact (no HF rolloff) and converted at a high bitrate. See here for a discussion on this.
