Thread: Alpha & Theta Entrainment: Isochronic vs. Binaural Beats

  1. Default Alpha & Theta Entrainment: Isochronic vs. Binaural Beats

A few days ago, I made a post in the Mindplace Facebook group about Alpha and Theta protocols. Joe responded with the following comment:

Using binaural beats is useless because they don't entrain to specific frequencies. Nor is fluctuating frequencies by a fraction of a Hz effective. Cortical response affects the target frequency and nearby frequencies. It's not possible to entrain to a tenth of a Hz.
I'll include the Alpha protocol below. As I understand it, the default mode of the KBS editor generates isochronic beats. Therefore, if someone wants to use binaural beats instead, they need to set the S Depth to 0%. From what I've gathered, isochronic beats work well for Beta or Alpha frequencies, but can be jarring for Theta at least according to one of the admins. My main focus is on Alpha and Theta frequencies.
If isochronic beats are too harsh for Theta sessions, would binaural beats be a better option, or is there another alternative?
If so, how can this be done using the KBS editor?

As far as I understand, to create binaural beats, you need to set a frequency difference between the left and right pitch, such as 100 Hz in the left ear and 105 Hz in the right and set the S Depth to 0%. If there is an alternative, like monaural beats, is it possible to create that with the KBS editor?

    You have it correct.
Binaural beats are created by having the left and right pitches offset from each other by the amount of the entrainment beat that you want. 100hz Left, 105hz Right creates a BB of 5hz. Keep S depth to 0 for BB sessions.
Not sure what the difference is between isochronic or monaural beats. Maybe JoeV can answer that.
