Can the Proteus be used for manual control without the thoughtstream?
all I want is a tool for feedback. The Proteus sounds more like a guided
tool rather than direct control like the thoughtstream.

Hello and welcome!
Can you tell us a little more about what you are looking to achieve? I don't quite understand what you are asking.
The Proteus is an AVS device, designed to help with Brain Entrainment.
The Thoughtstream is a Biofeedback device, designed to help measure your level of relaxation.
The Proteus can certainly be used on it's own, but I'm not sure what you mean by "guided tool".

Thank you Andy, I have downloaded the pdf and will read it over the weekend.
I am totally new to all this, the devices and the vocabulary as well. I currently see the Proteus as a passive
device and the Thoughtstream as a control device. In the end I want to escape the device
and do it all on my own, self control, focus, ect.
The Thoughtstream has feedback, turn all the lights on the front green.
How do you receive feedback to make a change with the Proteus? The product description seems passive.
I hope I have clarifyed my original post.
Thank you.
The goal should always be able to do it on your own. All the AVS products are there to help you achieve this.
Since you are new to AVS, please do read the article I linked for you. You should read as much as possible so you understand as much as you can about what you want to do and the best way to get there. Here are some articles to help you with that.
