Greetings! If you tried to charge it on a USB hub, that might be the source of your problem; not all of them provide the usual 500 ma charge current, but rather are intended for data transfers only. Try plugging it direction into a computer USB port or USB charger and see if that fixes it.
If the rattling sound you mentioned does not sound like a loose screw (very unlikely), then it might be either the slight clearance we used with the keypad switch tolerance, causing the switch assembly to move around (this is normal--hey, we're not Apple), or two solenoid beads we had to add around the battery wires at the last minute to meet CE RF requirements--which is also common and does not indicate a problem.
Hope this helps, ahead of requiring a console exchange via our MindPlace warranty! Returning to amazon UK would be the least ideal solution, as they basically toss any returns out, since we have no UK address to handle warranty work as yet.
