Thread: New Windows Editor and Firmware for the Proteus

  1. #1

Default New Windows Editor and Firmware for the Proteus

The new windows session editor has been sent to the Webmaster and should soon be available for download.

Be sure to update the firmware in the Proteus as well.

Here is a summary of the new features...
    *****************************
    Proteus firmware...2.5
    1)...
The volume of the internal sounds can be adjusted independent of the external sounds while in the Pxx and Uxx modes.
This setting also works in the USr and PC modes but has to be set in the Pxx or Uxx mode.
    How to ...
When the Proteus is turned on the volume setting for the internal sounds is set to full.
While a session is running, press the middle and bottom buttons at the same time and hold. This will cause the internal volume to decrease then go off in approximately 5 seconds. It will hold at the off level for half a second then cycle back up to full volume.
This volume setting is remembered as long as the unit is turned on.
The overall volume of the internal and external sounds is still affected by the potentiometer on the unit but now the internal sounds can be reduced without reducing the volume of the external source.

    2)...
The on time for the lights can be shortened in five steps.
With lights at full brightness the duty cycle (on time) is normally about 40%.
The new firmware will allow on times of about 40, 20, 10, 5 and 0%
    How to ...
While a session is running, press the top and middle buttons at the same time then release.
Each button press decreases "on time" of lights until the lights go off.
The next button press restores the on time to 40%.
This works in Pxx, Uxx, USr and PC modes.

    3)...
The user can keep the Audio Strobe mode on indefinitely.
    How to ...
In "AS " mode momentarily press the top (Start/Stop) button.
The display toggles between "AS " and "AS_"
The "AS_" display indicates that the unit will stay on as long as power is available.
The "AS " display indicates that the unit will turn off after 80 minutes? (This assumes no buttons are pressed).

    4)...
The user can turn off the display in the Audio Strobe mode.
    How to ...
In "AS " mode momentarily press the bottom (Select) button.
This will toggle the display on and off.

    5)...
The accuracy of very low frequency flash rates is improved with a 24-bit phase accumulator.
    ************************************************** ******
    New features...Windows Proteus Session Editor...2.5.1

    1)...
The user can reload the default "simple" sessions.
    How to ...
With the Proteus connected to the computer and in "dL" mode, select the menu item <Utilities> <Restore Factory Sessions (Simple)>
A window pops up asking the user to select a PTS file.
Select PROTEUSCODE25.PTS and click "Restore" to reload the sessions
    or
click the "Cancel" button to cancel the operation.

    2)...
The user can reload the default sound tables.
    How to ...
With the Proteus connected to the computer and in "dL" mode, select the menu item <Utilities> <Restore Factory Sound Tables>
A window pops up asking the user to select a PTS file.
Select PROTEUSCODE25.PTS and click "Restore" to reload the sound tables
    or
click the "Cancel" button to cancel the operation.

    3)...
The minimum flash rate for the lights has been lowered to 0.1 Hz (the old limit was 0.5 Hz)
At this rate, the on time of the lights can appear rather long (about 4 seconds).
Feature #2 of the Proteus firmware (see above) was implemented so the lights would flash in a more familiar way when running at low frequencies.

HI! I`ve just downloaded the new 2.5 software , but when I go to update code , I get the relevant window with the file Proteus2_5 , But there is nothing in the file it is empty,
(I compared this procedure to the 2.4 version and when I do the above prcedure, the file Proteus2_4 , I get ProtEd2_4.pts and this uploads to my Proteus no problems)
Also when I click on the link for the new complex sessions, this takes me to somewhere on the web!

Once the new complex sessions file was uploaded, the link changed. Here is the proper link.
    http://www.mindplacesupport.com/Proteus.htm
Scroll down to the file you want.

That's an interesting bug regarding the firmware file.
Let's see if we can find that file.
Do you have your computer set up with your program files under the C: drive like C:\Program Files\ ?
    Is the software at C:\Program Files\Proteus2_5 ?
The firmware is called PROTEUSCODE25.pts, maybe do a search for it (Start/Search/All Files and Folders)

Let me know if you find it.

The page is the mindplace support site and all the Proteus downloads are there. Scroll down. It's under software.

Try reinstalling the software once you download it.

My apologies. That is a bad link and the firmware is not part of that download. I'll get that fixed right away.

    Sorry!

    Default pts file

    Hmm!?

I looked at the download and, indeed, there is no PROTEUSCODE25.pts in the CAB file.
    I'll have to re-compile it.

    In the mean time...
    I have attached PROTEUSCODE25.zip.
Unzip it then paste "PROTEUSCODE25.pts" in the same folder as "Proteus2_51.exe"
