Re: Problems with Com Port
I should add that when I connect the procyon USB to my pc rather than make one beep it makes two, and is not listed on my pc. In other words, it doesn't appear to register or know the Procyon is connected.
Re: Problems with Com Port
Hi Jamie,
The Procyon is quite fussy about how its drivers are installed.
My suggestion at this stage would be that you uninstall whatever you've installed, including using control panel to remove the drivers, then follow the installation instructions absolutely exactly, particularly the part about loading the drivers before plugging in the Procyon.
If you're using Vista, you'll see a post up in the pinned section that explains all.
Also note that there are two versions of the Procyon using different drivers - very important!
If all that fails, give another yell and I'm sure Andy will come to your rescue :)
Cheers,
Craig

Craig :)
Thanks for your help. I have removed the drivers and will start again, tomorrow now, its late here. Thanks for your help

Re: Problems with Com Port
I am also having similar problems.
I am a long time (+5 years) Proteus user (currently upgraded to version 2.7, no problems) and have used the session editor/upgrader quite a bit. I also have the ThroughtSteam and Mental Games. I have really enjoyed all these a lot.
I also use NP2 and together with my Proteus, it's been great.
I just got my new Procyon today (rev 2, system 2.1) and tried loading the current support webpage 2.1 software and followed the instructions. I intended to upgrade this to the latest 2.201 sofware after this.
After installing I plugged my Procyon to my PC (Widows XP) and it could not find any drivers and could not install this device.
When I call up the program it seems to want to connect to port#5 instead of Port #4 which I'm hooked up to. So I get the usual cannot connect messages.
I'm not sure what the problem is? Maybe I'm missing a few drivers. or maybe my Proteus drivers are over-ridding them (I use a com #2 port for them). I tried using these comm ports but it did not make any difference.
I'm sure there is an easy fix so please let me know. Thanks.
Best regards,
Tom C
Re: Problems with Com Port
Hi Tom;
These instructions are for Vista, but other than some slightly different screens that come up, the procedure should work for XP.

Let us know if that fixes the problem.

Re: Problems with Com Port
Thanks Andy, that seemed to do the trick! I was then able to update my OS to the new 2.2.02 editor and all seems to work fine. You cannot select other com ports, the OS seems to do this itself, and seems fine.
I see that there is a new AS analog feature but I don't quite understand what this is actually for, or how to use it. Maybe it is for NP2 AS sessions? Your update note says there will be instructions for this but I cannot find any (except for the new key functions, which I have printed out). Maybe you could help explain this a bit more or point me to the right thread.
Thanks for your help.
Cheers,
TomC
Re: Problems with Com Port
That's great, Tom!
Here's some info created by Jim that will assist in understanding the Analog AS mode. It's geared towards NP2 usage.

Re: Problems with Com Port
Thanks Andy, that's great info, just what I was after.
I've only played a few sessions with my new Procyon and so far I really like it. Those new glasses really give you a great light show and I personally find them bright enough. I ordered a lightframe adapter from you yesterday so I can try using my Proteus glasses, esp. my white light glasses which seem to work best with NP2 AS sessions. Also, the sound quality during built-in sessions is much better than the Proteus.
Only very minor complaint is the lack of a User Mode. I really like this mode on my Proteus. With the better quality light/sound it would be nice to have this feature including the current proteus light flashing options (and tone freq) and also an option to turn on/off each color while running the User mode. Maybe you will include this in a future OS release?
Overall, I'm very happy with my new toy so far. Thanks for your help and support.
Best cheers,
TomC
Re: Problems with Com Port
Dear Andy
I followed the instructions you gave
http://www.mindplacesupport.com/foru...read.php?t=558
But when I got to no. 6, and plugged in my Procyon, the computer simply makes the double noise when you plug in a USB but doesn't register it at all. I went into my computer and it doesn't even register that any USB is plugged in.
Very strange and disappointing. Any ideas? Is there a manual way to get the computer to register the USB?
Cheers, Jamie
Re: Problems with Com Port
My computer is running Windows 2000, not that that makes a difference I don't thnk.
Re: Problems with Com Port
I always had problems getting my USB devices working under Win2000. I used to run a Win98 partition (dual boot) to get around this. Since going to WinXP, no problems.
To get Win2000 USB ports to work (sometimes) I think I needed to make sure I was using USB 1.0 drivers and a slow transfer speed.
Also, you might try uninstalling the software completely again, then reinstall it, and then follow Andy's steps. You should not get any beeps when you plug in the procyon, just the found new hardware caption. Takes a while for my PC to recongnise this (~3 minutes, thought it had hung up).
Hope you find a fix for this. I'm sure some computer gurus will chime in.
Cheers,
TomC

Probably it does.
Try going into device manager, find the USB com port and do a driver update or reinstall. Then follow from Step #7. If that doesn't work then it may not be compatible with Win2k.

Re: Problems with Com Port
I don't recall anything special about the process, but I have a laptop and a desktop running W2K and chatting quite happily with the Procyon, old and new editor versions, so it's definitely possible.
If troubles persist, I'll have a decent look at what files are where on the W2K machines and report back.

Craig

Andy
I will try your new suggestions, thank you.
CraigT
Thank you for offering to check W2K for me, very kind of you.
I just hope I can get Procyon to work on my computer, I am using it for my ADHD and needs some programmes for beta-gamma. I was suggested that beta-gamma prog's on the Procyon might be the entertainment sessions, they are high freq but rather rushy i find and not very chilled! lol
What I need to create is a session (based on Olmstead, 2000, research with ADHD) that moves from 14hz and ends on 42hz, using red, amber light (for mental application). This programme would be intended to help me with maths, apparently Gamma is good for that.
Praying I can get the Procyon editor up n running tonight!
Jamie :)
Re: Problems with Com Port
Decided to have a look at the W2K laptop this morning anyway.
The SiLab drivers are in the folder Drivers\SilabDrivers, which suggests that I deliberately unzipped them from the CP2102.exe self-extracting zip file to that location, as opposed to them putting themselves there during an automated installation.
This reminds me that the latest (2.2) Editor/Firmware download doesn't include the drivers, so if that's what you're installing from, these have to come from an earlier download or installation disk.
I'm assuming you've never got to the point where the devices appear in Device Manager, so the big question is, "Do you have a SiLabs Driver folder somewhere?" and if not, "Do you have a CP2102.exe file?". If not, uninstall everything again, go back to an older setup, such as the installation disk that came with the Procyon, do the installation from there, and once all is working, do the installation from the latest download.
Just for the record, the moment that installs tend to go bad, on any OS, and I've done it more times than I care to think about, is when you plug in the Procyon before the drivers are available on the machine. It just seems natural to want to get that baby plugged in!
Cheers,
Craig

But that's it... I didn't have an installation Cd with the Procyon.

Re: Problems with Com Port
No problem... go here http://mindplacesupport.com/Procyon.htm and grab the 2.1.0 software and install that. Then install the latest.

Re: Problems with Com Port
Dear Andy,
It's been a while. I've been using my Procyon with Hemi-Sync and have found that mindblowing, and have been using my ADHD cds such as gamma and beta with relevant light settings.
Would be nice to see if I can finally get the editor going however as there are certain light effects I prefer and I could make more suitable lightshows for my ADHD cds.
... I am not very good with technical stuff. I have followed your suggestion:-
"Try going into device manager, find the USB com port and do a driver update or reinstall"
I am at the device manager and can click on the port, but I don't understand what u mean about updating or reinstalling the driver? I know this isn't a PC advice site, but still if you could be more specific for a PC shy person like myself!!
Wishes, Jamie :)
p.s. even if I can't get the driver working, I will be staying with my Procyon, it's awesome
Re: Problems with Com Port
Andy,
I did a driver update, but it said it couldn't find a "better match".
Hmmm
Re: Problems with Com Port
Hello again!
Well, the Win2k screens look a little different than the Vista ones, so I can see where it could get confusing.
The good part is you know how to get into your device manager and you can find the Procyon com port.
What is the description shown for the Procyon com port in your device manager?
Here are the steps as best as I can guess without having a Win2k machine in front of me connected to a Procyon...
I am assuming that the drivers are at ?C:\Program Files\Procyon AVS\ProcyonCP2102Drivers?, which is where they will be if you made it to step #6 in the previous instructions.
Once you've gotten to device manager and the Procyon Com port and to the spot where you update the driver,
1. Click on Update Driver...
2. Wizard opens. Click on "Next >"
3. Select the box that says "Search for a Suitable Driver..." and click "Next >"
4. Uncheck EVERYTHING except "Specify a Location" and click "Next >"
5. Click "Browse..."
6. Browse to the folder ?C:\Program Files\Procyon AVS\ProcyonCP2102Drivers? and click ?Ok?
7. Click "Next >"
I think it should be automatic at that point, with maybe some warning screens. Just click "Yes" or "Ok" and see how it goes. If it does not work, please let me know in detail what went wrong, what error message you got and so on. More information the better!
-Andy.
