Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Tried using my Kasina after not using it for many months. Took over 8 hours to get enough of a charge to turn it on but even though it's showing charging, when I unplug it the battery level shows almost dead no matter how long I charge it. It was working if I kept it plugged in but my cord isn't long enough to get it where I need it. Now when I try to power it on, it just says "low battery" and doesn't turn on. What options do I have to fix this?
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
While charging, what do you see under Settings/Service for the following lines:
Batt. Voltage:
Charge Curr.:
USB Voltage:
FW:
HW:
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
It wouldn't go past the "low battery" screen no matter how long I charged it. I ended up doing a factory reset and updated the firmware. Now showing:
Batt. Voltage: 3:18V
Charge Curr.: 0.04A
USB Voltage: 4.88
FW: KasinaFW2.06
HW: Kasina MMS 1.2
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Charge Curr. of 0.04A is WAY too low. It won't charge the Kasina properly at that level.
You should be seeing 0.50A or higher when charging (until the battery is fully charged).
First thing I would do is find another USB cable. The thicker the better.
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Tried another cord and another USB plug but it's not moving past .05, mostly moving back and forth between .03 & .04.
Any other solutions?

Likely you still have a bad USB cable.
Contact support@mindplace.com to get this resolved.
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
What's the actual recommended amp range for charging please?
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
0.25A to 1.00A (or higher, depending on the USB power supply)
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
I also had a charging problem today. I plugged my Kasina for several hours, and it did not charge at all ( as always, I used the cable and charger that came with the Kasina). Thanks to this thread, I saw about the "Service" display ! It showed that voltage was ok at over 4V , but Charge current was at 0.03 A, much too low.
Then, making tests with other chargers and cables, I have found that it was not the USB cable that was bad, but the charger ( the one I had with the Kasina, back in 2016, a 5V/1.0A charger, model XS-0501000W). Now, with another charger, my Kasina is charging normally, with 4,7V, and a good 0.87A.
Bottom line: check also the charger, not just the cable.

Good point! Glad you got it to work.
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Same charger & cable I have used for over a year with no problems - now it wont charge & is dead
I have to assume the cable has become damaged? would this be the most likely reason?
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Either the charger or cable may have failed.
Was the Kasina charging fully? Did the "filling" battery icon on the top right of the screen ever turn green after charging?
If your Kasina will still power on, and while the Kasina is plugged into the USB charger, can you please go to Settings/Service and tell me what these numbers show:
- Batt. Voltage:
- Charge Curr.:
- CPU Voltage:
- USB Voltage:
- FW:
- HW:
If your Kasina will not power on AT ALL, then please try the following procedure exactly, carefully reading, in particular, steps 3 to 5:
- Remove the micro-SD card from your Kasina
- Plug in your Kasina to a "known good" USB power source. This can be a USB power supply or the USB port on your computer, just check that it's working by using it to power another device in your house (cell phone/MP3 player, etc)
- Let it charge for a minimum of 1 hour
- After letting it charge, unplug the USB cable from the Kasina, and leave it disconnected for 15 seconds. Keep the other end of the USB cable connected to the USB power source
- Plug the USB cable back into the Kasina, again leaving it connected to the USB power source, and quickly press the power button on the Kasina
- Your Kasina SHOULD fire up at this point. You can now continue to charge the Kasina, noting the battery "filling" animation until the icon is solid green. While it's charging, take note of the above charging information under Settings/Service
- Get the values from the above Settings/Service menu and post them here while it's charging
- When the Kasina is fully charged, update it to the latest firmware
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge

My charger is set on 5v 1500mA
Tried different cables - no joy
Its just a black screen - if I press the white round middle button the screen flashes white and thats all
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
You tried the EXACT procedure shown above?
It's tricky to get right, so try it a few times, using the thickest USB cable you have. If still no luck, then contact us at support@mindplace.com for further assistance.
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
I tried one of the cables & it doesnt work with my camera - the other does however
Here in New Zealand these cables are actually difficult to find - the easiest supplier is PBtech & I have a second cable from them
This one works for my camera but not the Kasina. I think the power supply is OK. Will hunt for an alternative cable supplier.
Actually they have more than one supplier I will try one of these https://www.pbtech.co.nz/product/CAB...-5-Pin-Male-c?

Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
OK first problem today is the micro sd card will not come out. I am in a hotel with nothing sharp to budge it
Can I charge with it in?
I will soon find out as I have it plugged into my laptop USB. Still just a black screen - will wait one hour
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Magical - I followed your instructions and yes it worked - could not get the card out however
Yes in the past it has worked perfectly with green bars etc
I have book marked this thread so hopefully get it right in the future
Thanks
Re: Kasina Not Charging or Holding Charge
Great!
Use your thumbnail to push in the ?SD card. It should go in a little and then spring back out so you can grab it and remove it.
