It is a very easy build and the strip fits perfectly. You get the added benefit of an adjustable strap and foam padding around the eyes. They are very comfortable. There are air holes on each side too.

The build is similar to the sleep mask I show on YouTube.

Use an Xacto knife to cut small slits in the foam padding. Separate a small section on the bottom so the strip will fit in. Then just slide in the strip and use the glue to hold it down. I used flat latex paint to 'black out' lens. Secure the edge of the strip with electrical tape to protect the wires. The foam padding provides a nice raised surface that the cable lays next to so it can exit from the frames without being in your way.

Overall very easy to do and a nice set of light glasses.

Many of the super saturated colors mute down to very pleasing shades. Greens and blues are especially nice. Reds pop with full strength. In fact in the upper vision red is very prominent and carries strong patterns. While at the bottom of the vision you get nice calming hues.

An added benefit is that you can easily move between short bursts of full eyes open for the beauty, half closed for moving downward and visualizing, and finally fully closed eye. The eyes adjust more easily between these states when half closed is the midline. I think to some measure closed eye colors are even better as you have the chance to 'charge' them first.

I have measured strong alpha response in this state with my EEGs and theta is well within reach.

Those who are interested in 'projection' will find this to be a nice technique as well.

AVS is getting ready to undergo a nice evolution with this product and the amazing capabilities of SpectraStrobe.

It can also apply volume modulation to external... The Kasina has the ability to alter the modulation depth programmed in a KBS file from the interface. It can also apply volume modulation to external audio files played through the AUX jack. This post describes this feature which was introduced in firmware 1.12. It shows up in the KBS player.

Two settings work in conjunction with one another. The UP button on the Control Pad controls to what audio the modulation is applied. Either KBS audio only, AUX audio only or both KBS and AUX.

Mod KBS + AUX uses the Depth parameter in the KBS file and the MD setting to affect both the tones in the KBS file and an audio stream piped in the AUX jack.
Mod KBS uses the Depth parameter in the KBS file and the MD setting to affect only the KBS tones in the session. Incoming audio will play without modulation.
Mod AUX uses the Depth parameter in the KBS file and the MD setting to affect only incoming audio. The tones in the KBS session will be muted.

The second setting is accessed by the RIGHT button on the Control Pad. It determines if the depth of the modulation programmed in the KBS is altered or not. The options are:

MD 100% (no alteration)
MD 75% (KBS sound Depth * 0.75)
MD 50% (KBS sound Depth * 0.5)
MD 25% (KBS sound Depth * 0.25)

In addition to modulating the tones in the KBS session, you can use the frequencies in the KBS session to increase and decrease the volume of an audio stream at brainwave rates.

This is enabled by Mod KBS + AUX or Mod AUX. The audio stream currently must come from the AUX jack, that is external audio from say a smartphone. The KBS session provides the instructions for the frequencies of this 'tremolo' effect. The Sound Depth parameter in the KBS segment controls how much the audio is chopped up.

In the normal setting, Mod KBS, the tones in a KBS session are modulated to create isochronic pulses. Most often this is full depth at 100%. All factory KBS sessions use this depth besides binaural beats.

For instance at 100% in the KBS segment, the tones in segment and/or the AUX audio stream will be go from full volume to zero volume at each pulse.

Let's say the frequency is 10hz, then it would do this 10 times per second. If the KBS segment had a depth setting of 50% then the audio volume and tone volume would go from 100% (full) to 50% (half), ten times per second. At this setting the modulation is more subtle and you would continue to hear much of the non-effected audio during the pulse.

A volume modulation of 100% is too much for most incoming audio unless it is something like an ambient drone. Rather than having to change the KBS session we introduced the MD (modulation depth) setting for KBS files in the Kasina interface.

The modulation depth setting - MD plus a percentage value - on the Kasina overrides or subtracts from the Sound Depth parameter in the KBS session. If the KBS segment had a depth setting of 100% then MD 100% would keep the volume modulation of the audio at 100% (multiplying 100 * 1). If the setting is MD 75% on the Kasina and Sound Depth 100% in the KBS segment then the final volume modulation value would be 75% (multiplying 100 * 0.75 = 75)

A quick table of examples:

The KBS Sound Depth parameter in the KBS file on the card will usually be set to 100% to generate isochronic pulses. That is, unless the segment uses binaural beats at which point the Sound Depth setting will be 0. For most sound files that you stream through the AUX jack you would like a subtle, but noticeable modulation. The useful settings for AUX audio are then either MD 50% or MD 25%.

Quick recipes:

KBS playing, no external audio - use either MOD KBS or MOD KBS + AUX (the AUX portion has no effect in this case)
Play KBS session as programmed - MOD KBS - MD 100%
Adjust KBS session tones to 50% of programmed - MOD KBS - MD 50%
Play KBS session as programmed with AUX audio unmodulated - MOD KBS - MD 100%
Play AUX audio lightly modulated by KBS settings, turn off KBS tones - MOD AUX - MD 25%

This is a set of plugins, effect chains, and equalization presets to create mind machine sessions including AudioStrobe and SpectraStrobe, binaural beats, monaural beats and isochronic entrainment tracks.

With the effect Chains in Audacity you can edit light tracks in a number of ways including stripping them out, doing color conversions, converting AudioStrobe to SpectraStrobe etc.

The documentation is slim at the moment but will be expanded. Really videos are needed for fuller explanations. There are a couple up already on the MindPlace YouTube channel.

I am moving a lot of projects to this Github account so the latest releases can always be available and changes noted.

This is our first foray into these waters so we have decided to use a 'shell application' as a testing platform to try out different interfaces and controls. This helps us to avoid the App Stores and the unfun parts of the making mobile apps and get right to the good stuff. It also allows us to switch out things quickly and try new versions.

The platform is called MobMuPlat - Mobile Music Platform. http://www.mobmuplat.com/

Install the one you need from the respective App Store. Do this first before transferring the attached test app/s to your device.

The attached archives are documents that need to be opened by the MobMuPlat app. After transferring the files and opening MobMuPlat, click the round icon with the 'i' in it... Info button and select the AudioStrobe file from the list. It should be the first one.

Once you have installed the app then transfer the archive to your phone. You can do this through iTunes for iOS (instructions on ModMuPlat site, but basically go under Apps in iTunes and scroll to the bottom to find File Sharing and click the MobMuPlat row to see its documents, then extract the zip archive on your computer and copy the 2 contained files into the iTunes window) For Android connect your phone or tablet for Media Sharing. It mounts as a drive and you can copy files into the MobMuPlat folder under storage. If you can't find this then you can just copy it to the Documents folder and then find and click those files on your device.

That's the hard way, but the way you need to learn to do it, as we change out files.

The easy way is to email the zip file to yourself and open the email attachment on your device. If MobMuPlat is installed (you did install it first right!!!) then it will extract the archive, copy the files to its documents folder and open the app. Again, this is great at first but if you want to later replace those files, it might not work.

So, there are several archives to choose from. Pick the one that fits the screen of your device.

This first app is pretty simple. It sends AudioStrobe and an isochronic tone out the headphone jack. Connect one of our light and sound machines (any that supports AudioStrobe) with the AUX connection by a patch cable. You will need to turn up the frequency, volume and depth for the tone and AS color channels.

You probably want to play with the volume on your phone to get the fullest range of AudioStrobe from full brightness to off. Experiment with the phone volume and Volume sliders for the colors to set it. The Tone volume can be set to taste.

Play! Change the frequencies and brightness in realtime with your glasses on. Phone or tablet on lap below you helps.

I will make some videos on different apps you can use to record the sessions on iOS. Android I'm not sure if you can record across apps but if someone knows a way then post in comments.

So this is a start and a simple one... but fun! Please test out, comment below, and ENJOY! More apps in this MobMuPlat document format are coming.

The interfaces are not exactly pretty but they work well in my initial tests. Note the isochronic audio tone can be distorted. This will be handled better in later versions. Release early and often. This is a testing platform so you must have some tech sense and a love of exploration. There may be bugs, and some of them might be out of my control (with the MobMuPlat app)

BTW, this is open source and uses PureData as the audio engine. The included .pd files are the full patches. If you have some tech ability then have a go at expanding or altering them... but share and share alike.

These templates provide the basic elements for SpectraStrobe: Red, Green and Blue tone tracks and the SpectraStrobe reference track. Do not alter the base frequency of any of these tracks because it is this frequency that creates the light signals. For the reference track do not change anything. Note the volume of light tracks need to be low. An ideal balance has been set so you won't want to go higher than this. If you go lower it alters the brightness and balance of the lights. This is how you create color mixes.

AudioStrobe only requires one track. The Left and Right pan of this track either selects between 1 of 2 light colors (ie Red and Green) or sets the pan of the light signal. The effect depends on the machine you are using. All curent MindPlace machines interpret AS channels as selecting color. On the Kasina with ColorSets you can pick the mode you want.

Using these templates you can create light and sound sessions in an easy, accessible manner. Add audio files or other sound entrainment tracks to make full sensory stimulation track. And please share them here on the forum.

Attached is a template for you to print and cutout a simple cover for your Ganzframes which will allow you to view them with eyes open. This should work for Procyon, Proteus, last revision Sirius and the extra color frames we sell. Basically, all the ones with purple frames.

It is not quite as smooth as our upcoming eye open glasses but is fun and easy. Note that this template is designed to allow a little outward curl on the bottom inner corner of the lens on each eye. (towards the nose piece) This helps hold the screen in place more securely.

It took me a while to get all the dimensions right and that's enough for one day. I'll add patterns for new templates soon.

The PDFs are able to be opened and edited in Illustrator if you want to add your own patterns.

The spread is not perfectly smooth and the overall effect doesn't compare to true eye open glasses (forthcoming from MindPlace). However, it is fun and easy to do.

The first attachment provides a template that you can cut out. There is a notch on the left lens to allow it to slip under wiring cover. They fit the lens fairly tight. Four groups are on one sheet so you can have extras as needed. Experiment with different paper thickness for the best effect.

Also, you can experiment with different patterns. The second template has four example patterns. Who knows what can be done with this. It is an unexplored realm. Maybe even affirmation words could be good.

Update: There is a third pattern set added. This time with some sacred geometry. BTW, for people with graphic art skills the PDFs are able to opened and edited in Illustrator if you want to add some of your own patterns. But please share them.

The Green LED is on the whole time at full brightness. The Red LED flashes changing patterns. The amazing thing about this session is that you actually see very little green. Only in the slowest changes, like at the beginning. Otherwise you have (at least I do) a strong impression of sky blue as the complement color. The Blue LED is not on at any time.

In the faster transitions there is a strong impression of light yellow as well as some oranges.

Overall it is a pretty colorful display, while only using 2 LEDs with only 1 flickering.

Do you see the same colors? These are SpectraStrobe files for the Kasina. There is no audio and I am using only the Red LED at its brightest setting. What is mainly being altered is the frequency controlled live in an audio editor and also the pulse width using an audio gate.

Correction: the Spin Spaces has all the lights on at once. It seems this optimizes the feeling of spin due to the separation of the LEDs covering a wider range of the visual field and stimulating more neurons. At least I think so, but subject to correction.

The fractal images compare favorably with the geometry in the AudioStrobe titles, especially Fractal Dance. There is a fair representation of the major types of fractals that AVS creates.

These are test and catalog files to showcase some techniques. The images change more quickly than they would in the context of session, also with very little space or breathing room between them. So it is kind of an intense experience.

Quick and simple hack for experiencing eye open colors on the Kasina from user saswing. That is until we release eye open glasses. But this is a classic trick and very easy to do. Also works with other glasses as well.

When your Kasina is plugged in you will notice new buttons added to their interfaces. Play on Kasina and Upload to Kasina. When you choose Play on Kasina the session will pipe directly to the Kasina by USB regardless of your Windows sound settings. You can then easily play through your computer speakers using the regular play button or through the Kasina with the dedicated button. Awesome!

You can also automatically compile your NP3 or MWS session and copy it directly to the Kasina SD card for untethered playback using Upload to Kasina. Again Awesome!

One thing worth realizing as noted by TomC is that NP3 and MWS create new folders on the Kasina SD card under the Sessions directory to store compiled sessions. Respectively, MWS Sessions and NP3 Sessions. As the Kasina screen holds 6 items at one time and from the factory this first page list is full, you must scroll down using the navigation wheel to see these folders.
