Thread: hypothalmus - stress response

  1. Default hypothalmus - stress response

    dr. hans selye wrote a lot about the stored stress in the hypothalmus being the cause of lots of chronic diseases.

    im wondering if anyone knows how the glasses can be used to release the stored stress in the hypothalmus? maybe i am oversimplfying, but it seems to me that any protocol that allows you to reach the relaxation response or to deeply relax will do the trick. wondering if others have more detailed information.

    thank you very much.

    You can use a light and sound machine to help reduce stress. You would want to focus on programs that target the alpha and theta groups of waves.

    Stress isn't stored in the hypothalamus; however the hypothalamus does trigger the release of hormones (cortisol & adrenalin) which can have harmful effects on the body. In a sense stress is stored throughout the body.

    If you suffer from chronic stress, you may also want to increase your intake of Acetyl L-caritine which helps remove toxins from your brain and helps with stress relief as well. Acetyl L-Caritine can be found in whey protein.

    Attacking stress from a multidirectional approach will give you the best results. For example, use :
    • AVS (light and sound) to calm & relax mind;
    • exercise to release tension and pent up stress;
    • practice deep breathing. When we are stressed our breathing is shallow and rapid and breathing deeply allows our brain to shut off the stress response.
    • listen to music you like (activates limbic and frontal areas of brain resulting in your feeling better).
    • learn to pay attention to your self talk and change negative messages to positive, solution based messages. When we engage in negative self talk - our brain responds biochemically. In other words, what we say to ourselves and how we say it can promote the release of stress hormones.
    No one thing alone will get rid of the stress. It's one of those things that require a life style change. While AVS can help your brain get to a calmer state, it will not cure chronic stress because chronic stress is caused by the way you think.

    Hope this helps.
