Thread: Overcoming Time Limitations?

  1. Exclamation Overcoming Time Limitations?

    Hello!

I recently purchased the Proteus with the hopes of using it to help induce lucid dream states while sleeping. I've played with it a bit and tested it and I'm quite pleased with the exception of one serious problem -- time limitations. For my my goals with the product specifically, this is a pretty big drawback as REM is at it's longest at the -end- of each night.

Is there any way to either:

    1) Loop the sessions so that they will repeat indeffinately until I turn them off

    2) Extend the audiostobe so that it does not shut down automatically so I can loop CDs, or make huge MP3 playlists

    3) Disable the auto-shutdown for all modes.

I've read the manuals, and I've seen that they say that they've included this "feature" as a "Courtasy" to prevent loss of battery life. Honestly though, I'm a big girl and can decide for myself whether I want to buy more bateries, turn off my machine, use rechargleables, or head to radioshack to purchase a power supply. :/

    Thanks in advance,
    - Justine

    Can anyone help?

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

If you update the OS to 2.5.1 or higher, there is a mode that keeps audiostrobe on indefinitely.

    From the OS notes:
    3) Audio Strobe mode can remain on indefinitely.
    Usage
In "AS " mode momentarily press the top (Start/Stop) button. The display toggles
    between "AS " and "AS_".

The "AS_" display indicates that the unit will stay on as long as power is

    available.

The "AS " display indicates that the unit will turn off after 80 minutes

    (assuming no buttons are pressed).
You can find that OS and the Editor manual which includes instructions on how to update your Proteus at:
    http://support.mindplacesupport.com/...oteus-support/

    Hope that helps!

    -Andy.

    Fabulous!!

Thank you very much. I'll be sure to post the results of my sleep experiments if there is any interest here in the community .

    Thank you again!

    Erm... Okay... still having problems.

I downloaded and updated the most recent version of the OS tonight. The first few times I tried it said "bAd" in the LCD display, however after I changed the transfer rate to the slowest available, it went ahead and did the download process without the error.

I assume that means that it has been updated.

That being said, when I go to AS as you said, and press the start/stop button nothing happens. I also tried pressing and holding but to no avail. No underscore appears next to the AS>

What number flashes on the screen when you power it up?

  6. Default Re: Overcoming Time Limitations?

When I turn the unit on the number that flashes is 2.3.

That's the version of the OS (2.3). So the new OS has not loaded.

Are you using a USB to Serial adapter or does your computer have a proper serial (RS232) port? If you're using an adapter, maybe take a look at this thread: http://www.mindplacesupport.com/foru...hread.php?t=37

Yup. I was just looking at that when you responded. This is the adapter I am using.

I am now looking on their web site to find out if they have drivers to download.

Please try to follow my instructions for the USB->Serial adapter installation step by step to make sure you've got it installed to a compatible com port #.

SEems that it doesn't like my USB adapter. I've tried everything on there but to no avail. : /
