Thread: Forum Search broken?

  1. #1

    Default Forum Search broken?

Something is wrong with this forum search. I understand (as a developer) that Google usually will be best, but this may be something to look into for the webmaster. Example: When I search for the word "eye" I get Sorry - no matches. But using Google "eye site:www.mindplacesupport.com" I get hundreds of hits.

It's a deficiency of MySql where search terms need to be 4 letters or more.
Searching for eyes or eye* works fine.

OK, nice tip. But still searching any three letter word with * leads to nothing. Asterisk does not seem to work at all, and niether "visu*" or "visua *".
"The search term you specified (*) is under the minimum word length (4) and therefore will not be found. Please make this term longer.
If this term contains a wildcard, please make this term more specific."

Don't use quotes and no spaces before the wildcard.

Nope, sorry, does'nt work here, chrome browser. May be browser related. I use no quotes.
Thanks for the demonstration. Looks like you are on Firefox.

Chrome is broken in many ways and has been for a while. I can't even use the release version as so much doesn't work properly.
There is hope however, Canary seems to work properly.

I'm sorry about the trouble you're having, but there's not much I can do. As you have discovered, and I have shown, the issue is with the Chrome browser, not this site.
I guess you have 2 choices, either try another browser (or the beta version of Chrome, called Canary) or use Google search.

It might be helpful to let Google know about the problems with their browser, as I have. They fixed some of their problems in the beta, but for some reason don't want to put out a new release with these fixes. I don't know what's going on over there at Google. All I know is that I wanted to love Chrome, but with all it's problems, I've given up and gone back to Firefox.
