Thread: Proteus serial cable problem

    Default Proteus serial cable problem

Hi, hope someone can help me out.

I have bought Proteus sometime back in 2002, and i still have 2.0 OS version.
Device came with original serial-aux cable and i bought an USB2Serial adapter via ebay in hope i could get it working on my laptop.
But i still cannot by any means update my device OS or transfer any sessions, i tried all drivers.

Is there any alternative solution or am i forced to buy this new USB Proteus Cable?

Problem is im not in the USA, and shipping will cost more then a cable.

    Thank You.

Hi Andy, thanks for the thread link. I have verify all the steps.
My adapter is 2303 Prolific. But once i download the latest drivers i get yellow error code 10 in my Windows XP control panel.
My adapter is of this type. I also had problems making it work under my WIndows 7 machine, tried some 5 types of drivers. So now i'm trying to make use of it on Windows XP laptop.
So if i install original drivers from adapter CD, i dont have Error code 10, but i cant get Proteus to work even though its set on COM4 port.
Any ideas of what might i been doing wrong?

UPDATE: i resolved error 10 code by downloading a SER2PL.SYS file and replacing the one in system32 folder. But i still cant get any connection or data transfer once i plug the aux serial to adapter and Proteus. Proteus editor acts same, showing transfer bar, even when there is no cable connected.

I expect you have a defective USB to RS-232 adapter.

Please download and run the attached program and copy/paste the output screen contents here or copy/paste the contents of the findports.log file that is created in the folder of the program.

Thanks for sending the port test app. I get "no mindplace device found" popup window. :/
Guess i need to order a new serial usb adapter. Hope it arrives soon, and i post positive results here.

Yeah, doesn't look good for your USB to RS-232 adapter.

As per this thread, what is shown under the "Ports (COM and LPT)" section of device manager?

After few months of pause and switching to another PC laptop i finally got time to continue with my effort to get this adapter situation resolved.
My initial adapter was defunct so i ordered another one that arrived last month.
I got it working under Win 7 but unfortunately it's driver is not Prolific but wch CH340.
And i couldn't get it possibly to work with my Proteus.
So now im in buying mode again and ordered another cable from ebay that is advertised to have Prolific drivers.
    Will keep you updated.
