Thread: Increasing battery life by disabling audio system?

  1. Lightbulb Increasing battery life by disabling audio system?

    Hi there,

    one question concerning the Proteus & Procyon:

    Would it be possible in a future OS update to allow totally disabling the audio system of the mind machine and thus increase battery life? Or is this not necessary as the audio system will not consume any battery life if the headphones are not plugged in anyway?

    (This of course only makes sense for people who don't really use the audio component of their machine - like myself )

    Thanks,
    Thomas

    Hi Thomas;

    If the headphones are not connected and/or the volume is turned down, the audio system draws no power. When using both, the lightframes draw more power than the audio system, anyway.

    Thomas,

    The best way to improve battery life with a Sirius or Proteus is to use a MP AC adapter. For the Procyon (with the new 2.1.6 OS) I use an inexpensive USB Power Bus as an adapter.

    Both work great and save you buying a lot of AA batteries!

    Cheers,
    TomC

    Hi TomC,

    thanks for your advice, but I was thinking in terms of increasing battery life while still using batteries and not switching to an AC adapter. The reason for this is that I want to avoid having more cables hanging from my Proteus than necessary.

    Thanks,
    Thomas
