Thread: Getting Driver/Editor Installed Properly

    Default Getting Driver/Editor Installed Properly

This is my last hope for progress:

Have PROCYON AVS (box has no stickers/version info)
    Serial Number: PCTA061200888

When Powered on (new batteries), LED displays:
    002 (a couple of milliseconds)
    o5
    1.7.4
    SES
    002

    Activities In Order:
    On Windows XP (SP3):
Installed: Rev 1 (TI) Procyon Driver (non-WHQL), reboot
Installed: Procyon1_7_22 - No GO, then Uninstalled, reboot
Installed: Procyon Editor & OS 2_2_05 - reboot, No GO, then Uninstalled, reboot
Re-installed: Rev 1 (TI) Procyon Driver (non-WHQL), reboot, NoGO
Re-installed: Procyon1_7_22 - No GO, then Uninstalled, reboot

Have just cleaned up and out all traces of above (many hours).

What I'd really like to know is:

What in the world should/could I do (in simple order, simple steps) to:
    Install proper driver
    Install proper Editor
So that I may take best/maximum advantage of your very cool machine?

I have spent several hours on your support site trying to "get it right" and am not a dummy or novice, but have become very properly confused. If you can assist, I shall "sing your praises" and post the results of the "amazing experiments" I contemplate.

Thank you in advance of your assistance,

    Steve

I feel your pain. I've now installed my Procyon on a good dozen different machines, from Win2K to Win7. If everything falls into place, it's a breeze. If something goes awry, then it can take a lot of undoing.

The basic principle is this - get the drivers properly installed before plugging the Procyon anywhere near the computer. The moment the device detection kicks in the future is set.

Each OS has it's own unique way of dealing with the fact that MindPlace is a small company developing highly specialised devices for a small market - ease of installation is only available if you pay for enough "Approved for ????" certifications.

    Do

Completely and thoroughly uninstall everything Procyon-ish or USB-Serial driver-ish. Always reboot after adding or deleting anything in this process. Windows has a horrible habit of making things different during reboots.

Install the drivers. Just answer yes or no as required until Windows finally agrees to do what you're asking it to.

Plug in the Procyon. See what device detection accomplishes this time.

    Loop until done.

    Cheers,
    Craig

Thank you Craig for your reply, but I'm still unsure of the proper versions of both the driver and the editor. Do you know (or have advice)?

Your info so far is well taken, and I thank you.

Looks like you've got a Rev 1 console - I've only had Rev 2. There's a unified driver package that deals with the main differences, but I'll have to leave the finer point of Rev 1 to Andy.

I'm not sure what resources you've found here so far - there are a couple of more-or-less step-by-step procedures posted that work if you observe rule 1 - do not connect Procyon before drivers are installed.

    Cheers,
    Craig

    Hi Steve;

    Sorry for all the trouble.

There is a unified installer now that should make the process painless.

So far it seems to be working well for Rev1 and Rev2 consoles.

I need to get the support site updated as the separate editor/driver system is not the easiest way to do things.

    -Andy.
