noob question

i ordered thoughtstream specifically for use with mindgames and have the old problem of using the serial cable/usb connection. I am not computer saby enough to figure out how to connect. can't seem to get drivers to work and when using mindgame it says that it cannot detect a port. Help- biofeedback making me more stressed out. Didn't know that after spending 136usd i'd have to spend another $40. If not fixed soon I'd rather have a good ipod for sure. Any help greatly appreciated. Best buy sold me a Dynex usb to serial adapter #dx-ubd89, i'm using dell studio laptop w/ Win 7

Sorry to hear about all the trouble you're having with your USB to RS-232 adapter. Is it this one: http://www.dynexproducts.com/p-197-d...ter-cable.aspx ?

If so, it seems like it probably doesn't have drivers for Windows 7. You probably should return it and see if you can get one that works with Windows 7. I've had good luck with devices that use the Prolific chipset.

There are much more inexpensive ones available too. Here's some suggestions from other users:

Thanks for speedy reply- The cable in question was indeed the one you asked about- I finally found drivers for it but when trying to use mindgames i still can't get get the game to "find a port".

If you are speaking of the program "Mental Games", it is not written by MindPlace and I don't even know if it's Windows 7 compatible, but I will try to help you.

Can you check in your device manager (right-click "Computer" in the start menu, and click "Manage", then click "Device Manager") as to what port is being made? Look under "Ports" and tell me what is listed there.
