The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Thank you Craig for creating such an amazing powerful tool for the kasina!
i got a wav file of my music loaded into a track and TKE loaded up and running audio and lights out of the kasina. The issue is the kasina is stuck in audio strobe mode, the reference toggle is on and i am running only one TKE. I am trying to get the kasina in spectra strobe mode. The lights are reacting to the music on the wave but it seems i dont have full control of them. I have turned off all the flash bright toggles. Can i leave the isochronic tones off? Also if i buy MUX can i run it as a vst in another DAW such as FL studio11 without buying a key for MuLab? I aprecciate any help and look foward to enjoying TKE with the kasina.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
It sounds like the Reference track is not on? I sometimes have to toggle it. The Kasina must have the reference track to enter SS mode. This is commonly the problem. Try to toggle it on and off while watching the Kasina display. It should switch after a moment. If this doesn't work check that the link to the wav is correct in the deep editor. Craig will help with this.
You can leave the tones off. Yes, you can run the MUX VST without MuLab... there is a discount for the two though.
So happy that you are digging into this... love to see and hear your results! You sound like you are well on your way. Points for you...

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Okay, if everything else is in place, play a MIDI C3 - unfortunately the Ref sample player doesn't always kick off at first - still on the "wonder why?" list.
There are two flash controls needing brightness set - there is the "Flash", which is generated by TKE, and there is the Audio Brightness which is the extent of the audio control. There is an overall total of -24db per color channel, hence too many channels set too bright will result in overloading - there are compressors that will cause "too much" to be limited to "full on". That, I suspect, is what's going on.
Every knob on every preset invites experimentation. Leave off whatever, audio, audio beat, light flash, audio flash - add another TKE (with Ref off) and add another set of colors and audio bands!
MUX provides all the functionality to create Mux devices like mine and to envelope them as VSTs for use in Mac or PC DAWs. MuLab just adds the recording, composition and playback environment (and a very nice one if I must insist!).
Above all else... have fun!
Cheers,
Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Thank you Craig and Neuroasis for your help , the kasina enters spectra strobe mode for around 15 seconds after i reset the audio engine to mme and kasina for sound . I also tried c3 note. Do i have to play c3 the whole time for ss mode to work? It keeps switching back to audio strobe mode when the buzz sounds in MuLab free edition. Was wondering the link to the wav in the deep editor should be set at? When the kasina is in spectra strobe mode everything seems to be working great! I am really excited to be able to control so many parameters precisley in live mode. Has Craig programed any of the sessions that came with the Kasina? Are all the sessions created in mind work station? Grateful for all the help and support, thank you!

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Do you have the separate WAV file (TKE.wav) in the same folder as the preset (.mux)? If not, you might have to open the loop player in the deep editor and reload the WAV. Can you add an instrument track also pointing at the TKE rack with one great big C3 at zero volume. Possible also that I have omitted to mention that the output of the TKE rack, ie the output of TKE, must be set to 0dB - that is the assumption on which the -36dB reference is based.
Thanks for being a guinea pig - unfortunately my development machines are so infested with things my applications and presets need that sometimes it's a little hard to predict what will happen in the wild (yeah, I know, excuses...) I'll clean things up as I come to understand the issues and update documentation...
A reply I just made on the Strong what-have-you thread lists all (I think) the sessions I have contributed. Most of the others Neuroasis wrote. I know there are at least two other contributors - please stand up?).
Cheers,
Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Every thing is setup checked a few times ,i can only get the kasina in spectrastrobe mode after i reset it in audio settings it works for about ten seconds then switches to AS mode for a second then back to SS mode for a bit then switches and stays in AS mode. Not sure where the loop player is in deep editor, a picture would be helpful. Thank you for the help.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Working on it - both fix and providing some screenshots for you. Thank you for your patience.
In the meantime, the Ref wave player is the purple block at the left, labelled Ref On/Off.
Aaah! The joys of the leading edge!!!

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Thank you Craig for your help and feedback i will try the wav in the deep editor.
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Hey Craig i checked out the deep editor the TKE wav file is there i tried reloading it seems like its not the issue. SS works for right about 30 seconds then switches to AS. this only works when i reset the audio settings to mme kasina for audio. I am using the free version of mulab the static sound might be interfearing with SS. Or possibly the TKE wav file is to short ,my music wav is about 5 minutes . Thank you again .cant wait to automate these control parameters!
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
You should not be getting the static sound in a simple session. That is what is interfering... I think you are right about that... Too many tracks? Here is the FAQ on MuTools about what triggers the noise. http://www.mutools.com/info/docs/mul...-versions.html Hope this helps.. You are a trooper!
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
The Free version noise will definitely scramble SS. If that is the case, you should be fine with 1x audio plus 1x instrument tracks plus 2 automation tracks (4 tracks). If you want to expand on that you can create some tracks and mix them down into a single audio file and gradually build up the mixdown as track availability permits. TKE was designed to provide as much as possible without using up tracks. KBE also allows a lot of sounds to be controlled - even without using a track.
Once started the Ref keeps looping - the loop option should be set in the loop player.

Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
THe Kasina Effect is working great! Thank you neuroasis and craig for all your help. I had too many midi chanels on.
Also in the ref tab i turned loop mode to forward . I am enjoying and exploring TKE and aprreciating what a powerful controllable tool Craig has created!
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
That's awesome that you stuck with it and got it all worked out. Now the fun begins!
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Yay!!!
Thank you so much for your work with this. Was the loop set to off? If so I must fix this (it's correct on my last copy here). Anything you think should be changed/clarified in the manual?
The front panel only brings out the most commonly useful controls - if you get bored with the obvious stuff, have a ferret around amongst the components in the deep editor. I think the color coding should make signal flow fairly apparent. Best to leave color oscillators and ref components alone - they are set to match SS standards (change color osc waveforms by all means).
Feel free to modify and expand the presets - it would be great if these too became an exchangeable commodity like sessions - design colortracks for commonly available music, supply the preset minus the music, let the recipient supply their (legal) copy of the audio...
Questions and comments welcome.
Again, I say, YAY!
Cheers,
Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Hey Craig thank you for all the help ,i am really enjoying TKE ,i checked the downloaded file reference tab and the loop mode was off i have switched the loop mode to forward and things are running good. I am looking forward to creating and sharing presets and sessions. Will extra lightframes be available for the kasina?
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Yes, in due course (i.e. when orders for complete sets have been fulfilled) there will be separate GanzFrames available.
I have corrected TKE (my bad) - V4.02 should be available for download from MindPlace soon. Also keep in mind that MuLab is a rapidly evolving product - it's worth stopping by MuTools regularly for the latest version. Updating is a breeze - I love applications that run without installation.
Cheers,
Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
The latest TKE, Version 4.02, is available here. It corrects an error in the SpectraStrobe Reference.
Thank you Psymatic for your work with this.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Hey Craig,i have been enjoying TKE it is working great and the live refrence is working on the kasina,i tried to mix down and export a song to the kasina, and it only plays in AS mode but the SS mode is working when i play it in mulab. So how do i transfer a session from mulab to the kasina so the SS mode works? Thank you for all the help.
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
What file format are you saving it as? Are you compressing it to mp3 or leaving it as a wav?
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Also, it plays AS but not SS then it would seem that the reference signal is not being included in the mixdown.
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
I am mixing down into wavs then converting to mp3 then transfering to the kasina, can the kasina play wav files?
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Yes, Kasina can play wav. If compressing to mp3 use 320kbps CBR compression and preferably a LAME based encoder. Audacity has a LAME implementation. Mp3 is notorious for cutting out the highest frequencies (or corrupting them) in compression. All of the control signals are in the upper bands 19khz and above.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Thank you Neuroasis for your help,i am really enjoying the kasina.
-
Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
No problem Psymatic. Once you get the 'tool chain' down it is really a lot of fun.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
I put the wav file on the kasina in the spectrastrobe folder and it still plays back in AS. Do i need to install it in a different location on the kasina? In mulab i have been using the mixdown audio then transfering the wav file. Thank you for your patience there is a bit of a learning curve for me.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
If you ever want to check whether the SS signals are intact out of MuLab (or in any WAV/MP3 file), download the free Voxengo SPAN spectrum analyzer VST and place it in the last slot of the Master Rack. Zoom in at the very right hand end of the spectrum - you should find a constant bump at 18.2kHz which defines SpectraStrobe and 3 other humps, 18.7, 19.2, 19.7kHz that bounce up and down to the lights.
Cheers,
Craig

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
You don't have to put it in special location on the Kasina. In fact, the only folder that has a special purpose is the KASINA folder with the kasina.sd text file. That is so that my software and MWS can find the SD card when mounted.
The other folders are just convenient groupings.
I would still say that somehow the reference signal is not being written to the output. If you are getting any flashing lights at all (and you don't have really high frequencies in the audio you are using.. hihats for instance) then you are writing the control signals but something is up with the reference signal is my guess.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
I got everything transfered and working great thank you for all the help and support.
Can the kasina play 32 bit wav files? The 16 bit files are working great.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
I have been enjoying TKE for MUX ,ihave been using it in FL studio11 as a vst plugin the only issue is i can hear the high pitch sound of the wave file . I have tried to mute TKE in the mixer but then the light frames stop working . I have been able to reduce the noise by reducing the light intensity as well . Can i mute the wave sound and still recieve a live feed on the kasina? Thank you again.

Re: The Kasina Effect for MUX ?
Hi,
Although there are compressors within TKE to keep the SS signals within the -24dB limit, they had to be sufficiently soft to allow full brightness on each channel - it is still possible to push combined signals above -24dB, in which case the tones are going to be audible to those with younger ears than mine. When such issues arise I recommend loading your spectrum analyzer of choice (I mainly use Voxengo SPAN) as the final device before output, checking the levels up the top end and adjusting as necessary.
Attachment 682
Feel free to adjust the settings of the compressors - they are labelled as such in the Deep Editor, two per color plus one master.
Cheers,
Craig
