Will add some more later, but wanted to 'dedicate' this message to a couple of videos that pulls together NLP, hypnosis, psychology, misdirection, suggestion, and lots more into very entertaining examples of how we can apply all these techniques.

I've watched many Derryn Brown vidios. I was dismayed to find however that he stages most of his events, despite the carefully worded disclaimer at the beginning of his viseos. I've seen YouTube videos from people appearing in his stunts testifying that the events were staged and often fake with days of planning after calling for local volenteers( sp) . Hes a clever stuntman, thats about it.
The Chess game where he one against a number of Grandamasters by essentially playing them off against each other was sheer brilliance...
He's a showman, so of course he stages most of the stuff. He's in show business - right? But his disclaimer says he doesn't use stooges and such which is quite different. The Internet is full of folks pulling him and his stunts to pieces, much to his competitors' glee no doubt. But he still achieves his results with suggestion, misdirection, etc., which we can all learn from.Quote:

Thanks for the correction of the link! Yes, this stuff can be achieved. It takes great concentration and lots of practice. I don't know if Criss Angel is really doing it or not as he is an illusionist and when it comes to them you can not believe what you see. I can do some stuff but certainly not all of it.Quote:

Normally, I'm a pretty private person in that I like to keep to my self (my default). I have a couple of really good friends and their company is all that I want. I normally don't go to parties or social events. However, if I want to, I can become an extrovert and be very social and have a great time. No one would ever guess at what my "default" is. It's not putting on an act, it's actually transforming myself into someone who is social and genuinely having a good time. There are a few things that I change to make it happen, and this applies to other states as well, I change my perspective on the event and I find something to be interested in - for example, I decide to be interested in learning more about the people there. The reason I don't choose to stay "social" is because of the amount of energy and time it takes.
I was at a party and they were doing some karaoke, it looked like fun. My normal feeling was to be shy (because I've never sang in public). I decided to challenge myself and see if I could change state enough to sing in public. It took about 15 to 20 minutes and I did it. I belted out a tune and probably shattered a few ear drums in the process. lol
I smoked cigarettes for years and like many others wasn't all that successful at quitting. After some further training, I decided to test what I had learned and haven't had a smoke in 16 years.
I can do pain control (it's basically self hypnosis).
I can invoke ASC (altered states of consciousness) in others and depending on the direction chosen, depends on what they will see, feel or experience. This has many implications and uses.
I've studied the occult for years and can incorporate what I've learned into creating experiences for others and using the symbolic nature of the occult to create changes in others. Okay, that sounds mystical but essentially it's using NLP and symbolism to bring on change or experience.
I understand how magick works and so I can use that knowledge in practical ways.
Everything that I can do, anyone else can also do. All of it has to do with knowing how to do it and practice.
Criss Angel has studied mentalism and it looks like he is psychic but he's not. I know how to do "cold readings" as well and it looks like I'm doing psychic stuff but it's not.
I saw an episode where Criss Angel was able to find a key for a Viper (car) blindfolded and holding on to someone who knew where the key was. This is kinesiology (sp) and he was able to do this by picking up on subtle clues given involuntarily by the person he was touching. I know how to do this but I'm not any good at it. I haven't practiced it.
Kreskin does similar stuff but I haven't studied stage mentalism and so I can't do the same tricks that they can such as someone writing something on paper and guessing what it is and so forth. These things are tricks - illusionary magic and not real.

A good portion of it was my NLP and Hypnosis training. I also learned it through studying other mind related things. Many things in "magick" are similar, it's just a different method. For example, when I studied Thelema & Hermetics, a lot of the study had to do with learning how to strengthen the mind. It's similar to what is also taught in buddhism and martial arts training. As you can see ... there are many roads to the palace gates.Quote:

You brought up a very interesting point - finding the difference between real and illusion. Sometimes the lines can get blurred because someone believes that an illusion is real. I'm not talking just about Criss Angel, I'm talking about all kinds of things we think we see but in reality may be illusion (hallucination). You can never totally trust what you see because of our brain's ability to hallucinate so perfectly.

I would be inclined to believe it's, as you put it, merely a hallucination. Not meant by downing the significance of such an experience or anything. Anyway, I just brought this up because I think it's debatable as to which category it can be classified as. Is there anything abnormal that you would, personally, consider to be classified as real instead of illusion? (things like astral travel)Quote:

A couple of brief experiences. The first one was when I was in my teens and someone slipped some LSD into my pop. I had no experience with drugs and so it was all very strange. At one point, I remember looking down at my body from about 20 feet above my body. I was watching myself run through this park - then I went back into my body.Quote:

If you really think about it ... you really are relying on yourself when things get bad because essentially ... it is your perspective that has to change to make things go well again. God doesn't change you, you change you. You can decide that it's God that inspires you to do something or not ... but in the end, it's still you that has to actually act on that inspiration. Does that make sense?
Speaking of blaming other things ... I recall being at a hypnosis conference and this one guy had a work shop where he believed that evil spirits possessing others were responsible for mental or emotional problems. I didn't attend his workshop ... which is probably a good thing because I'm sure I would have gotten kicked out or exorcised for misbehaving. Anyway, this guy that attended his work shop came up to my booth (I had some AVS machines there to demo) and told me that he was possessed by 17 evil spirits and he said this to me with a straight face. :eek: Wow, talk about a party in your head. :icon_wink: Some people could really benefit from medication.
It looks like it's on CBS and premeirs on the 22nd. It may be good or it may be really dumb. Time will tell. Which two channels do you get? I wonder what kind of shows you get over there?Quote:

Yes, I think that makes sense. But the message from the Catholic church (Rep. of Ireland is stongly Catholic) is almost like "have faith in god and whatever your problem may be, he will fix it". I grew up believing this and it is only now that I can stop and think, "Ok, wait a minute.". I've tried getting into Buddhism and to learn how to primarily rely on myself to solve things without delay. Unfortunately, I have had little luck with finding Buddhists in Cork.
I'm beginning to understand what you are saying. I guess I have always seen God as how to solve problems (but this may be the Catholicism).

Well, there are only 4 Irish channel's. One of them is an all Irish channel. Then most people get Sky digital. That's basically the same as ye'r cable (I think it's called... or else satellite maybe?). It's from England but we can get it over here. That has our 4 Irish channel's and about 600 English one's :p
I've tried ye'r TV when I was in the States last year (again, not sure what it was called). Was very similar to our Sky digital but man was it horrible to use! :p

Usually when I want to have a lucid dream, I don't so it happens more randomly. One method I learned from good ol Carlos Castenda was to look at your hands in a dream. It's a way of switching to a lucid dream because if you can "consciously" look at your hands, then you can pretty much change other things in your dreams. It's difficult to remember to look at your hands so I try to remind myself to do this while I'm falling asleep and sometimes it works. You need something to trigger you in a dream - to remind yourself that you are in a dream.Quote:

Re: Alpha Theta programs
I'm not sure. Our sleep cycle is about 90 minutes and during that cycle it goes from Alpha to Theta to Delta and then back up to Theta and maybe a low Alpha, then the next cycle begins if you don't wake up. We normally dream during the lightest cycle in our sleep so that would be theta/low alpha. So dreaming happens naturally - and we always dream. If you don't remember dreams, it's because you went back down into a deeper delta stage. We tend to remember dreams when we wake up at a lighter stage of sleep. It is the deeper delta sleep that allows our body to regenerate and missing out on delta sleep is not a good idea.Quote:

I watched the Pilot episode of The Mentalist this evening. It was good! It's about a guy that use to pretend he was a psychic and did this using observational skills (mentalist stuff) rather than psychic power. He now works with the police. It's worth seeing. :eusa_clap:

That's good to know. A conscious dream would be like a day dream, a lucid dream would be where you have some consciousness because you are aware you are in a dream. That one takes practice so keep at it and let me know how you do.Quote:

seeing as how the package delivery guy woke me up in the middle of the afternoon (i'm completely nocturnal), the first thing i did with my new procyon was to slam in the batteries and select one of the night voyage settings (#25 or #26 i think) to try to go back to sleep for a couple of hours. my new toy distracted me (look! pretty lights!) and it wasn't until a few minutes into a 2nd session that i drifted off again. but i did have a dream that seemed longer than normal and i remembered it better than usual, so i think marisa has a point.
btw marisa, tarot can go that cold reading one better by picking the symbols out of the person's subconsciousness and, luckily for me, doesn't require any sort of psychic ability (i have none), just a slightly altered state of consciousness to find the correct plane or channel--no more than any other spell calls for.

Given that the best dreaming happens in a theta/low alpha state, the best time for lucid dreaming is before you wake up. Delta sleep occurs for approx the first three hours of your sleep cycle, after that the sleep cycle becomes lighter and thus the last half of your sleepy time is the best time for lucid dreaming.

The tarot cards are much more useful for pathwork. That is where you use the major arcana and associated path (Qabalah) and then filter everything that happens to you over a period of time (usually a month) through the symbolism of the card and path. You start with the 32 path and make your way up to the 11th path. The process will take two years or more but if done right ... you will be an entirely different person at the end of the journey (in a good way). Do it wrong ... and either nothing happens or you get the crap kicked out of you (figuratively speaking). But that's the thing with magick ... it can be a double edged sword.
The term "Magick" was coined by our good friend Aleister Crowley and it means "an act of will". The reason he came up with the "k" was to distinguish between that which is illusion and that which is real.
