Hi all,
Skullcandy has launched new headphone called Crusher which makes us feel the bass around ears. It can enhance Mind Machine experience. It is possible to put another earphone in side the headphone who use hypnosis CDs or any other audios in between. SkullCandy Crusher is $99.

Are they using Bone Conduction? Sound to me like a subwoofer type driver. They look pretty nice for bass though.
The Pineapple bone conduction headphones I have, which are earbuds, I sometime put them into other headphones so I have high fidelity and vibration.

I will say that vibration (haptic/tactile) makes a huge impact on wide spectrum entrainment.
I have the headphones I mentioned plus I think we have talked about bass cushions before? I have one of those and an audio triggered massage cushion with several motors. The massage cushion times out automatically after 10 minutes to preserve the motors and in the midst of a session with it after it stops my body is 'buzzing' for many minutes afterwards, usually most of of the remainder of the session. It shakes the astral body loose (so to speak).

I picked up a white set of these. Trainspot in the Mind Art folder is freakin' intense! It works well with my vibration cushions too (which is one reason I made it) But with this session the Crushers give you the total feel of the engine or spaceship intent.
I can imagine a lot of possibilities with these headphones. Thanks for bringing them to my attention.
Wow, its been about 10 minutes since I did the session and my head is still pulsing with vibrations. Vibration stimulation is quite powerful. For me I get 'cold chills' down my body for awhile afterwards. Astral travel people will recognize this sensation of shaking loose. With the Crushers my head gets in the mix too, which I was missing.

Yeah, I think they are worth it. They are nice headphones and I really like the vibration aspect. Probably not recommended to people subject to headaches or migraines for instance. Although the bass level and vibration is adjustable. It does add a whole new level to sessions. Very comfortable with nice sound too.
I would be curious if it is recommended or contraindicated for fibromyalgia? I don't know. There are 2 ways of looking at it.. either it would override pain sensations and give some notable relief, that would be great. Or it would trigger sensitized nerve endings, not good. I would tend to guess at the former but without any basis in practice.
The great thing of course with Amazon is try them out and send them back if you don't like them. This is a bit of trouble for companies like SkullCandy (or us) but awesome for the consumer.
Thanks. I must say I am not plagued by headaches. I think they may add to the whole experience. I always like trying something new I find some progs make me lose body awareness more than others but do enjoy discovering altered states .

Well I gopt my Skullcandy crushers and I am a bit disappointed. I am wondering if they are faulty. I was expecting to have very marked vibration going by what it says about them but I had to check many times if the battery was properly placed and the sliding dial up full. I tried them on several different songs on my ipad and although there is a slight difference, I would never have thought that they were bone conduction. Maybe I have indeed got a thick skull haha.
I like them though so will not be sending them back.
Ah, I see on the other thread you started to discover how neat the headphones are. I was that way too. I don't normally listen to a lot of hip hop or 'bass' music as it is, so first exposure to normal music with frequencies mainly above 60hz or so was a bit underwhelming. Then I started to explore tracks that had those deep frequencies and wow it was a revelation.
Also, don't forget that some music especially mp3s need an equalizer applied to them to emphasize the bass frequencies. I found that natural sounds like PVC Pipe or OM Telephone Wire from Gordon Hempton had a lot of hidden bass frequencies. Or the NASA Voyager series is great too. A nice drum album is Rhythms of the Chakras Volumes 1 and 2 from Glen Velez.
So you have to have deep bass present in the music to really experience the Crushers. Watching sci-fi movies like Prometheus is cool too. I'm not really a gamer but I can see how the game would be enhanced.
Yes, I am the same not really listening to the kind of music that maybe would get the crushers going to start with. I would imagine with gaming they would be great. I tried them with some Runrig, Scottish band and they really took the pipes and drums out. I already have that cd by Glen Velez somewhere so will be looking it out. Thanks for the tip.

New phenomenon, I was using Skullcandy headphones while using Sota Magnetic Pulsar. I noticed i can hear sound like ding in my ear from upper body when magnetic pulsar release magnetic field to any bones of upper body.

The one I have is the Homedics iCush-100 It works quite well, especially for the price.
It is a discontinued item though. I have no idea why. I haven't found any newer items that are comparable in the same price range. Normally the specialized vibro-acoustic stuff is way out of range.
This cushion is nice because it has headphones or speakers as well as the audio input. It has the normally ascending/descending/random/targeted modes that you would expect with a massage cushion, but with the possibility for audio sync.
Isochronic beats work with it really well if they aren't crazy fast.
That feeling of full body entrainment and tingling is amazing.
Thanks Scott, I checked it out and one sold at a reasonable price on ebay here back in feb. I will keep a look out for it, I have a cushion that is meant to vibrate with the music but it is terrible and the bass is distorted.
I just want a decent but not too expensive one for benefits of vibro acoustic therapy.

Looks pretty nice but expensive. One thing to consider is that for this type of 'bass cushion', the deep bass actually has to be present in the audio. Not everything will work. The iCush mentioned before is an audio follower which looks at the overall power across the spectrum. Any audio source will have some effect. This is not the case with bass cushions.
I have an old Aura bass cushion. It looks like now they only sell the transducers. I also have some of these from DaytonAudio.
If you haven't tried the Skullcandy Crusher headphones mentioned in this thread, then you might want to consider those. I like them a lot now and use them all the time with sessions.

Yes, I saw the aura transducer on a website, was thinking maybe that alone might be good for sound therapy as you can place it anywhere on the body.
Funny you should mention the skullcandy crusher headphones. After reading what you and others have said then I recently ordered some. I have read mixed reviews so did not go for an expensive pair.
Hopefully I will enjoy them as much as you, I was hesitant but haven't spent too much then If i do not like them then it won't be too much money lost.

That's interesting Raj. That is the same transducer housing I have. Actually I have 2 of them and will study that link more to see if I can convert one.
I don't think the audio on the bass cushion is intended really to be heard, more so felt. There are adjustments on the unit to get a better level. I also run them through a headphone amplifier. Right now I use the Aura cushion for my legs and feet. I use the iCush for upper body and the Crushers for the head. The feet aspect is important I think as there are so many nerve endings in the feet.
In this scenario the audio quality has no relevance to me.
On the Crushers I understand that there was an older version and a new version. My experience is with the new version.

The idea of purchasing a neurophone has been resonating in my head for a while, it would be very fortunate for me to have been stumbled on this thread if those headphones can repress the exorbitantly priced neurophone.
Bone conduction is not the same as the Neurophone technology, whatever that is exactly.
What is certain is that with the Neurophone there is an RF component. There are plans online available but from my research it does seem that to minimize distortion and provide for a wide range of frequencies, components with high tolerances are needed.
The Neurophone exists in that strange realm between myth and actuality. It has been available for decades. And yet you see no consumer technology (or medical even) utilizing the principle. I would imagine that Flanagan's ability to defend patents wouldn't stand up to a major player. That should cause one to wonder what exactly the full story is.
Like many I am curious but the prohibitive price (even their newer Indiegogo version) does not ever entice me to take the plunge.
The Crushers have a strong tactile experience. The Sensation55 driver that they developed for them resonates at 55hz which with powerful subwoofers is more felt than heard. I think they have succeeded in producing a set of headphones that produce low frequencies that you can feel throughout your body with low distortion and overall good balance across the spectrum.
For the $99 they are asking they are worth it. They have become my go to headphones for sessions.
This is the most recent attempt to reverse engineer the Neurophone. From the guy's report it was even admitted by Flanagan that it was somewhat close. There is a big difference in the carrier waveform which seems important as well as better materials. I have all the parts but haven't made this yet.

Got the skullcandy heaphones a few days ago and when plugged into an mp3 player with bass boost or the cd player with bass boost then the effect is great, The effect isn't so powerful playing it directly into the kasina and even though the skullcandy allows you to boost the bass, The effect for me is when the bass option is selected on the mp3 player, this was not while connected to the kasina.
Unfortunately my sony mp3 player does not seem to be very compatible with the kasina, the sound is faint and distorted. I will have to burn some cds and then connect the portable sony cd player to my kasina. The bone conduction headphones do improve the experience but plugging directly to the kasina the effect is not so noticable, though I will try more sessions on the kasina and update. If I connect the external cd player to the kasina then I can put it on bass boost and think this is the best way to enjoy the effect of these headphones.
You have the older version of the SkullCandy Crushers (SkullCrushers), is that right? My understanding is that there was a lot of improvement with the new ones. With material that has bass frequencies present (the Kasina does no boosting) the effect is quite noticeable. Try out the Mind Art session Space Trace and see how it does. On mine this session vibrates like crazy.
I'm not sure why your mp3 player would distort with the AUX input. You might want to try and adjust the AUX input levels in Settings - Audio on the Kasina.

Yes these are the older skullcandy, I was listening to a Kelly Howell guided track and the vibration effect was amazing on that track and is powerful on other tracks, in fact the relaxing tone was too powerful on the kelly howell track with the skull candy subwoofer amplifer combined with bass boost that I had to turn off the bass on the mp3 player, I will try space trace later with the headphones directly plugged into kasina and let you know what it is like. Thanks for the tip on aux settings, I will take a look.
I loved space trace Scott, You make great tracks, I love sleep cycle too, i know that wasn't one of the built in sessions, Skullcandy headphones really have made the experience more fun, I appreciate that you and others encouragement as they are worth it, even if I had to pay full price for the newer ones then it would be worth it on what I have experienced with these. I would love to try it with ces and light and the kasina but it is going to be difficult wearing my ces ear clips and using the headphones together, I might give it a go, the more layers the more intense the experience.
CES and the skullcrushers together while doing light and sound sessions is great.
