My partner's story: Let us just say when he was young he was very wild and fell into the cauldron with the magic potion, if you are aware of Asterix' story. Now his mind keeps spinning and spinning, mostly with negative thoughts and worries, and it takes him hours to fall asleep, which leaves him very tired during the day.
When the mind over analyzes, it cranks up the beta waves over 20 Hz causing anxiety. The mind does not differentiate what is a real threat, and what is imagined. Thoughts of things you cannot control such as the future can trigger the parasympathetic (flight, fight, or freeze) reaction flooding the system with adrenalin and cortisol, drawing blood away from the organs and into the muscles. The heartbeat quickens and blood pressure goes up. This is great if you are staring at a grizzly bear bent on having you for dinner, but if you are sitting in an office thinking about what your boss thinks of you, it wrecks havoc on the system.
